2022 in review

It’s time to reflect on the year of 2022.

In December 2021 I wrote that I want to write more Rust. I did, kind of. I started my LC-3 virtual machine project but got then sidetracked in May with the release of Hare. I wrote some toy interpreters in Hare because that’s what I do but decided to get back to Rust for 2023.

Like last year, I contributed to Cute Chess through the year. My biggest contributions this year were CMake support, improvements in the release process and 1.3.0 beta release.

With these contributions, however, I think it’s time for me to let go off Cute Chess. The project’s state is, in my opinion, better than it has ever been for someone else to take over. Still thinking if I’m going to do this and, if yes, how this should be done.

What I continue doing is reducing my usage of social media and news sites. I wrote about this in early 2021 and relapse in late 2021. I’m doing better job now. In summary: more RSS, less Twitter, Reddit and news sites.

Next year I’ve promised myself to write less. I enjoy the process but not the frequency of it. Bottom of the barrel has been scraped more than once this year.

That’s all I have for this month. See you next year!
